Discussion
We’ll be discussing the role of disaster cinema in American culture. From Dante’s Peak to Independence Day, Hollywood has always been obsessed with the spectacle of the country’s collapse – be this from forces beyond earth, global warming, or some other nameless disaster lighting the touch paper for a national collapse.
Led by Dr. Richard Langley – an expert in American cinematic representation and specialising in the disaster films of Roland Emmerich – we’ll be chatting about our favourite disaster films and asking why so many blockbusters are obsessed with blowing up the White House.
